Produced by Irwin, the “Yappies” were the very first Pound Puppies to be sold in stores, appearing in Canada in 1984 before Tonka bought the rights for the US market. They were modeled after Mike Bowling’s original dog plushies that featured hand-painted details.
The first manufactured Yappies have embroidered eyes but were soon replaced with plastic eyes, which is exactly what makes this particular plush incredibly rare. I’ve only read about them and had never even seen an example of this early version until now.l!
This puppy is full-sized and has the old, original PP bone logo embroidered by the tail. She also has her original leatherette collar with English and French text.
She’s been washed and sanitized, and I’ve provided a few minor repairs. Her tag is faded and she has some grey areas, but considering her age she’s in absolutely amazing condition.
You may never see another like her! She needs a new home; reasonable offers will be considered. Don’t miss out!
